Fixes January 14 for Accelerated Hearing
- Safiu Kehinde
An Ogun State High Court sitting in Ijebu-Ode has dismissed an application for interim injunction filed by Nigerian Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM, over the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland stool.
This is coming under the heels of the musician’s rejection by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.
NPO Reported that the ruling house had earlier this month rejected Wasiu Ayinde’s letter of intent submitted in declaration of the Fuji icon’s interest in the vacant throne.
Recall that KWAM had in the letter dated 3rd of December, notified the ruling house of his intention to be considered for the vacant stool as he declared himself a bonafide son of the ruling house.
He traced his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara lineage.
In reaction, the ruling house rejected Ayinde’s letter, declaring that there is no proof of his membership with the house.
Ayinde had in the wake of the reject filed the interim injunction, seeking an order to restrain the Ogun State Government and other respondents from taking further steps in the selection process of the next Awujale of Ijebuland, pending the determination of his substantive suit.
He accused the ruling house of violating the Ogun State Chieftaincy Law as well as a breach of his constitutional right to fair hearing.
However, the court, in its ruling delivered on Monday by Justice A. A. Omoniyi of High Court 3, Ijebu-Ode Judicial Division, held that the application lacked merit and therefore refused to grant the requested relief.
Despite rejecting the interim injunction, Justice Omoniyi ordered an accelerated hearing of the case in the interest of justice and fixed January 14, 2026, for the commencement of proceedings.
