A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Kuje, Abuja, has on Friday granted human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore, bail hours after his arrest.
NPO Reported that Sowore was yesterday apprehended by operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command shortly after meeting the embattled leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu at the Federal High Court.
While the Police failed to give reason for the activist’s arrest, the action linked to his active role in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest on Monday.
He was arraigned to court today alongside Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor and 11 others who were earlier arrested during the protest.
According to report, all thirteen defendants were arrested and arraigned before the court for alleged incitement of public disturbance and breach of peace in connection with the protest held in Abuja.
The court, in its ruling, granted Sowore and the other protesters bail in the sum of ₦500,000 each, but with the condition that they present a verified National Identification Number (NIN).
It also directed the defendants to present their three-year tax clearance certificates and submit their passports as part of the bail conditions.
Others granted bail alongside Sowore, Ejimakor, and Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, include Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.
