The Abuja Magistrate court has granted Traceynither Ohiri bail following her arraignment by the police for calling out the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, over N250 million debt he owed her.
NPO earlier Reported that Ohiri was arraigned before the Magistrate Court in Wuse 6, Abuja, on Thursday hours after her confrontation with Umahi at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command surfaced online.
While the details of the charge against her is currently unclear, the court reportedly granted her bail to the sum of N1 million with two sureties.
Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, confirmed the development while addressing newsmen after the hearing of the case.
Sowore recounted her ordeal in the hand of the police while in detention while commending the magistrate over the bail ruling.
“Traceynither has been granted bail. Police have detained her, molested and harassed her.
“They tried to reduce her to nobody. They invited the Minister and put them in conference room for the Minister to do whatever she likes with her.
“We all saw the video. They even came here to come and present the video.
“But the magistrate did very well. She was granted bail at the sum of N1 million with two sureties.” He said.
The 2023 Presidential candidate declared the bail ruling as a defeat of tyranny and oppression while expressing his gratitude to Nigerians to stood in support of Tracey.
“This is a defeat of tyranny and oppression.
“We can’t proceed without thanking the Nigerian people, especially those who have intervened across board and social media.” Sowore said.
He however urged the new acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to stop police harassment of citizens.
“We know the Nigerian police. But we want to use this opportunity to reach out to the Acting Inspector-General of Police, they have to end this nonsense of police being used to harass citizens.” Sowore added.
