A Mapo Grade A Customary Court in Ibadan has remanded a 20-year-old man, Malik Aderemi, over alleged indecent assault of a seven-year-old minor whose name was withheld.
Aderemi, who was arraigned on two-counts of indecent assault and stealing preferred against him, pleaded not guilty to each of the charges.
In her verdict, the court’s President, Mrs S.M. Akintayo had admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
Akintayo added that each of the sureties must provide evidence of three years tax payment to the Oyo State Government in addition to ownership of landed property with Certificate of Occupancy (CO).
However, due to the inability of the defendant to meet the bail conditions, the court ordered his remand in custody and adjourned the matter until April 6 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni had told the court that the defendant allegedly stole an I-phone valued at N110,000 on August 18, 2025, at Gate area of Ibadan.
Ayeni said that later on August 28, 2025, Aderemi allegedly indecently assaulted a 7-year-old girl at Ayeye area of Ibadan.
According to Ayeni, the defendant inserted his manhood into the girl’s private part.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravene the provisions of sections 360(A) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II Laws of Oyo State 2000.
