An Ekiti State Magistrate court has insisted on continuing the trial of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi, despite granting him N50 million bail and adjourning his defamation suit till 29th of January 2025.
This was disclosed in a post on X by human right activist, Omoyele Sowore.
Following Farotimi’s arraignment last week, the magistrate court had adjourned his case till 10th of December 2024 while remanding him after refusing his initial bail application.
NPO earlier reported that the lawyer was eventually granted N50 million bail with his case adjourned as announced by Sowore.
However, the 2023 African Action Congress (AAC) Presidential candidate would disclose the court’s insistence on proceeding with Farotimi’s trial moment after granting him bail.
Sowore called on Ekiti State Attorney General to discontinue the trial immediately.
The farcical trial of citizen, Dele Farotimi, continues tomorrow at the Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti over a non-existent offense in Ekiti law books. We’ve asked the State Attorney General of Ekiti State to discontinue the trial immediately.
