A Delta plane crash-landed at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Monday.
At least 15 people have been taken to the hospital, per Peel Regional Paramedic Services. It’s unclear what led to the dangerous incident on Flight 4819, but winds in Toronto were extremely high on Monday afternoon, reaching 40mph on the ground.
At least three of those injured are listed in critical condition, including a child.
Aviation observers speculated on a message board that the jet may have been flipped by strong crosswinds.
Stunned survivors also filmed themselves inside the plane after it flipped, and on the tarmac once they’d escaped.
Ashley Zook, who took to Snapchat, said: ‘I was just in a plane crash. Oh my god.’
The plane, a Bombardier CR900, was operated by a regional airline, Endeavor Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines headquartered in Minneapolis. It was carrying 76 passengers and four crew members.
‘Delta is aware of reports of Endeavor Flight 4819 operating from Minneapolis/St. Paul to Toronto-Pearson International Airport as involved in an incident,’ Delta told DailyMail.com in a statement. ‘We are working to confirm any details and will share the most current information on as soon as it becomes available.’
All operations at the Toronto airport have been shut down after the crash landing.
Shocking images from the scene show the plane upside down on the ice-covered runway.
Passengers were seen exiting the aircraft and running away from it as they stepped onto the icy runway.
‘Toronto Pearson is aware of an incident upon landing involving a Delta Airlines plane arriving from Minneapolis. Emergency teams are responding,’ the airport said in a statement on X.
Emergency crews surrounded the plane after the crash landing and sprayed it with foam, preventing a potential deadly fire.
It appears there was at least a small fire sparked by the landing but it was quickly subdued.
John Nelson, who was aboard the plane, posted shocking footage of the moment he stepped off the aircraft on Facebook,
‘We just landed. Our plane crashed – it’s upside down,’ an out-of-breath Nelson said.
‘Most people are going to be okay.’
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board would be the ones to investigate the crash as it happened in Canadian territory.
Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy said FAA investigators are on the way to Toronto and he has been in touch with my counterpart in Canada to offer assistance and help with the investigation.
The Association of Flight Attendants also issued a statement following the crash-landing.
‘Our union is responding to an incident in Toronto with Delta Air Lines Endeavor Flight 4819. AFA crew were working this flight,’ the statement read.
‘Reports are there are no fatalities. Please do not speculate on this incident as everyone works to gather information and support those involved.’
Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed gratitude there were no casualties in the incident.
‘I’m relieved there are no casualties after the incident at Toronto Pearson,’ Ford said on X.
‘Provincial officials are in contact with the airport and local authorities and will provide any help that’s needed.’
Air Canada has informed its customers that those ‘travelling to or from Pearson are advised to check the status of their flight before going to the airport.’
The incident is at least the fourth major aviation incident in North America in just one month. Daily Mail
