Admits He Erred
Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot, has apologised to Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, over his actions during the last All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos.
Elliot was seen in a video circulating on social media kneeling before Gbajabiamila and pleading for forgiveness while seeking to be reintegrated into the ruling party in Lagos.
The lawmaker admitted that he had no justification for his actions and expressed regret over the events that strained his relationship with the party’s leadership.
“I’m sorry, I have no excuse, I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said.
NPO Reports recalls that this comes months after a contentious APC primary to determine the party’s candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Elliot had pulled out of the primary, citing alleged intimidation and pressure on his supporters during the exercise.
He had also refused to accept the result and indicated that he would pursue his grievances through the party’s appeal process.
The primary ultimately produced Barakat Odunuga-Bakare as the APC candidate who secured 11,385 votes, while Elliot recorded 270 votes.
The relationship between Elliot and Gbajabiamila had come under strain before the APC primary in May, following disagreements linked to the 2025 Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis and the lawmaker’s bid for a fourth term.
Gbajabiamila had publicly alleged that Elliot’s involvement in the political battle that led to Mudashiru Obasa’s removal as Speaker nearly cost him his position as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.
