The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi is dead.
NPO Reports learnt that the monarch known for his ebullient lifestyle, died late evening of Friday at the Afe Babalola University where he had been taken for treatment.
It was learnt that the monarch was in the United Kingdom two weeks ago for some medically related reasons.
A source close to the palace told our correspondent in the early hours of Saturday that his remains was brought to the palace in the covers of the night.
Though, there is no official statement yet, it was learnt that the atmosphere in and around the palace is gloomy as palace oepratives are said to be wearing long faces across the night over the passage of the traditional ruler who has ruled for 52 years.
Alaafin was 83.
Known to be boxer in his younger days, the traditional ruler is also known to be a very deep intellectual with his knowledge of history, global politics and social affairs.
