Tells Voters to Be Calm, Peaceful
- Safiu Kehinde
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has, on Saturday morning, asked the people of the state not to give anyone the opportunity to say there is violence in Osun.
Adeleke who defied advice from the Police and the Minister of Justice against the Local Government election said this after voting in his Ede hometown on Saturday.
Adeleke said no one should accuse Osun of violence.
There have been fears of state of emergency declaration should the state descend into anarchy over the local government election.
A number of people were killed last week after some All Progressive Congress members stormed different local government secretariats to take over the council offices after an Appeal Court judgement allegedly returned them to their positions.
They were sacked in 2023 by a Federal High Court.
Amidst the confusion that ensued last week, there were cases of death in Irewole, Ola Oluwa and others.
A former Chairman of Irewole Local Government Area Remi Abass was killed at the premises of the local government office.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote, Adeleke said the process was smooth while urging voters to conduct themselves peacefully.
“The process has been very peaceful. I made the broadcast to my good people of Osun State that this election should be peaceful, there should be no violence because Osun State is a very peaceful state.
“They should come out peacefully and vote and go back peacefully too. There should be no problem. We should not give them any chance to say that there is violence here and there. I don’t want that because we are peaceful people. As you can see, everything is going on well”. The governor said.
