The Department of State Services has said incriminating materials have been recovered during a search on the residence and office of Kaduna train attacks negotiator, Tukur Mamu by it’s operatives on Thursday.
NPO reported on Wednesday that Mamu was arrested at the Kano International Airport, after he returned from Egypt, where he was earlier detained by the authorities on his way to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.
Mamu, who is the publisher of Desert Herald and a media consultant to Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric, has been involved in negotiations for the release of persons abducted on a train in Kaduna, in March 2022.
Confirming the arrest on Wednesday, DSS said the publisher has questions to answer.
In its update presented via a statement issued on Thursday, Peter Afunanya, DSS spokesperson, said incriminating materials were found during a search on Mamu’s house and office.
“So far, appropriate security agencies have executed valid search warrants on Mamu’s residence and office,” the statement reads.
“During the processes, incriminating materials including military accoutrements were recovered.
“Other items include large amounts in different currencies and denominations as well as financial transaction instruments.
“While further investigations continue, Mamu will, sure, have a day in court.”
