The Department of State Security (DSS) has raised alarm over planned attack on Ondo and Kogi states communities by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorist group.
This was contained in a leaked classified letter written to the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery, Owena Cantonment in Akure, Ondo state.
According to the letter dated 20th October and shared on X on Wednesday, the DSS disclosed that the ISWAP insurgents have planned attack some targeted areas in Ondo and Kogi states.
While targeted areas in Kogi was not stated, the agency identified Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko communities located in Akoko North West Local Government Area as well as Owo town as areas targeted for the imminent attack in Ondo State.
The DSS held that the insurgents have commenced surveillance on the potential soft targets across the communities.
The letter read: “Intelligence confirmed plans by members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists’ group to carry out coordinated attacks on communities in Ondo and Kogi States anytime soon.
“Some identified target occasions within Ondo state include Eriti Akoko and Oyin Akoko communities in Akoko North West Local Government Area and Owo town in Owo LGA respectively.
“It was further gathered that the group has commenced surveillance on potential soft targets in the above-mentioned locations.
“Consequently, there is need to scale up the level of security alertness in the various communities to forestall any untoward situation.
“While above is for your information and further action, accept assurances of the highest regards of the State Director of security, please.”
