The Federal Government has declared Friday, 3rd of April, and Monday, 6th of April 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of this year’s Easter celebration.
This was announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed.
While April 3 will be observed as Good Friday, the 6th of April is recognised as Easter Monday.
Tunji-Ojo, in the statement announcing the public holidays, congratulated Christians in Nigeria and across the diaspora on the occasion.
He urged Nigerians to reflect on the core virtues associated with the season.
“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter.
“I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance and love as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ,” the minister said.
Tunji-Ojo further called for unity and peaceful coexistence among citizens, noting that the period underscores values essential for national cohesion.
“Easter is a period that reminds us of the values of tolerance and community that keep us together as a nation. Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country.” He stated
The minister also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to policies geared toward national development, economic growth, and shared prosperity as he wished Christians a peaceful and joyous celebration.
