President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his election victory.
The apex court had on Thursday dismissed the case filed against Okepbholo by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate at the September 2024 Governorship Election, Asue Ighodalo.
Recall that Ighodalo had challenged the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
However, both the Edo election tribunal and the Court of Appeal dismissed Ighodalo’s petition over lack of merit while affirming Okpebholo’s victory in their respective ruling.
Unsatisfied with the verdict, the PDP governorship candidate approached the Supreme Court which also upheld Okpebholo’s victory.
Tinubu, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, congratulated Okpebholo over the Supreme Court’s victory.
The President however encouraged the Governor to be magnanimous in victory and rally the citizens of Edo across divides towards a singular vision of advancing the state’s development.
According to the statement, Tinubu advised Okpebholo to accelerate the delivery of exceptional services and good governance to the people of Edo State, now that he has cleared the legal hurdles.
The President also congratulated the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State.
He called for cohesion and dedication in effectively discharging the mandate given by the people.
