The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Abdulrasheed Bawa has hailed the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) for promoting 2 members of the EFCC the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN)
In earlier reports by NPO Reports, the Legal Practicioners’ Privilege Committee which is chaired by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, approved the promotion of 62 legal practitioners to the rank of SAN on Friday, with 2 out of the promoted persons identified as Sylvanus Tahir and Rotimi Oyedepo in the EFCC.
Bawa commended the LPPC on Friday and expressed his satisfaction with the law library in the EFCC and the ample training of lawyers.
“We are committed to the development of legal practice in Nigeria through our painstaking equipping of our law library and adequate training of our lawyers. The LPPC has taken very informed decisions by the elevation of the two prosecutors, I’m positive that many more will still be elevated.” he stated.
According to the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Hajo Bello, their elevation was based on a decision reached on the 154th plenary session
“The rank of a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is awarded as a mark of excellence to member of the legal profession who have distinguished themselves as advocates and academics.” he said
The two EFCC prosecutors alongside 60 others will be sworn in on Monday Novemebr 21, 2022.
Sylvanus who heads the legal and prosecution unit at EFCC’s corporate headquarters is renowned for ensuring convictions of politically exposed persons for the EFCC.
Oyedepo heads the Chairman’s Monitoring Unit in Lagos Command of the EFCC.
