The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied arresting Nigerian social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, over multiple petitions filed against him.
NPO earlier Reported the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, had in an interview with BBC Pidgin disclosed that the activist was arrested on account of the multiple petitions bordering on cyber stalking.
Oyewale was said to have unveiled plan to arraign the activist to court.
“We arrest am to respond to series of allegations raised against am by some petitioners,
“we go release am wen e meet di bail conditions and we go carry di case go court as soon as possible, we dey law abiding”. BBC Pidgin had quoted the EFCC Spokesperson to have said.
Reacting in a post on its official X handle, the anti-graft agency labelled the report as fake news.
It also slammed the fake news label on a post by Arise TV’s journalist, Oseni Rufai, who reposted the news on his X handle.
