The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has nabbed a 51-year-old father of ten, Akilu Salisu, over alleged currency counterfeiting in Ilorin, Kwara state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on the EFCC’s official X handle on Thursday.
According to the statement, Salisu who hailed from Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, was taken into custody alongside a self-acclaimed Cleric, Umar Mikailu Shuaibu, an indigene of Kafor Wambari area of Kano State, and Salisu Nura from Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
They were apprehended by the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC over their alleged involvement in the circulation of counterfeit foreign currencies, including United States Dollars and Pounds Sterling.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the counterfeit currencies were intended for delivery to Shuaibu, while Salisu was identified as the final recipient in the distribution chain.
The anti-graft agency is however yet to disclose the total amount of counterfeit currencies recovered from the suspect.
