The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has vowed to prosecute former Niger Delta militia leader, Oweizidei Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over alleged Naira abuse.
NPO Reported that netizens had yesterday called out the anti-graft agency following the emergence of a now viral video of Tompolo where he was sprayed with wads of N1000 notes while dancing at a recent event.
Though the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) was not the one who sprayed the Naira notes, netizens had however challenged the EFCC to take action against the ex-militia leader for his involvement.
Reacting in a post shared on its official X handle on Monday, the commission vowed to interrogate Tompolo as it stressed that nobody is above the law.
“Nobody is above the law. Tompolo will have questions to answer!” The post read.
Recall that the EFCC had heavily been clamping down Nigerians, including celebrities, socialites, and social media influencers caught spraying Naira notes in social gathering.
NPO Reported the recent arrest of popular Nigerian businessman and socialite, Emeka Okonkwo (E-Money) for alleged Naira abuse.
Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, had also disclosed been invited by the anti-graft agency for spraying Naira notes at the wedding of her daughter.
The most controversial case of Naira abuse had been the arrest and arraignment of popular Nigerian cross dresser, Bob Risky, who was slammed six months imprisonment by a court ruling.
However, a leaked voice note the crossdresser revealed that he never spent the jail term in prison as he disclosed bribing officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) as well as some EFCC officials.
Meanwhile, on account of the past high profile arrests by the EFCC, Nigerians also took to their X handles to challenge the anti-graft agency on Tompolo’s case while some trolled the anti-agency.
