Elon Musk said Tuesday he would resign as chief executive of Twitter once he finds a replacement, in an apparent response to a poll he launched that suggested users wanted him to step down.
After becoming the sole ownership of the micro-blogging app in October,Musk has repeatedly courted controversy as CEO, sacking half of its staff, readmitting far-right figures to the platform, suspending journalists and trying to charge for previously free services.
Musk had on Monday conducted a poll asking users of the app to vote for or against if he should continue to lead the app or step down
He added that he would abide by the outcome of the poll.
“Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk had tweeted on Monday
In the poll results, 57 per cent of voters, or 10 million votes, voted for Musk stepping down.
However, reacting to the results of the poll, Musk on Tuesday said he would resign his position the moment he found someone foolish enough to replace him.
“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job! After that, I will just run the software & servers teams,” he wrote

Reacting to Musk’s tweet, Dan Ives, managing director of Wedbush Securities, described Musk’s announcement as a step in the right direction.
“Musk announces he will resign as CEO once successor is found. Finally a good step in the right direction to end this painful nightmare situation for Tesla investors,” Ives tweeted
Musk has used the Twitter polls to take other decisions on the platform, including the reinstatement of the account of former US president Donald Trump and other suspended users.
