There was tension in the premises of the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Wednesday as policemen shut down the place over suspected moves by some people to invade the House.
Workers in the House were said to have abandoned their offices and left as words filtered around that some thugs were about to attacks the House.
Findings by the NPO Reports indicate that the alleged plot to attack the House and some lawmakers came from anger over the emergence of the new Speaker, Gboyega Aribisogan.
Aribisogan was elected new speaker at the plenary on Tuesday after the death of the former Speaker, Funmiyi Afuye.
According to NPO Reports findings, the emergence of Aribisogan had run foul of the plan by some leaders of the party who had agreed that the replacement for Afuye should come from the Ekiti South Senatorial District.
However, sources told NPO Reports on Wednesday that against the agreed arrangement, some members of the House jettisoned the decision of party leaders and went ahead to elected Aribisogan who hails from Ekiti North Senatorial District.
The leaders of the party had allegedly agreed on the choice of another member Bunmi Adelugba (Ekiti South) to be the speaker pending the end of the tenure of the current House.
“Some people have said not under them will they allow this to happen. I think that was the information the Speaker and his loyalists got that made them to invite the police to provide cover,” said a source.
It was not clear whether the House of Assembly will open to business on Thursday as efforts are said o be on by stakeholders to ensure amicable resolution of the matter.
