Amnesty International Nigeria has demanded investigation of the alleged starvation of the minors arraigned to court in connection to the #EndBadGovernance protest.
The Humanitarian group made the call in a post on their official X handle, hours after the President Bola Tinubu’s order of the minors’ release.
NPO reported the President’s directive which also included Investigation into the arrest of the minors.
Reacting to the development, Amnesty International charged the President to also probe the alleged starvation of the minors while in detention, which led to their deplorable condition as seen at the Federal High Court.
“President Bola Tinubu must also order a transparent investigation of the alleged deliberate starvation of the minors as a result of detention in a deplorable condition, with deprivation of food and other basic needs, that puts their physical and mental health at grave danger.” Amnesty wrote.
Drama had ensued at Abuja Federal High Court last week after some of the minors reportedly collapsed during the hearing of their charges.
The malnourished state of the children led to public outburst and condemnations.
Meanwhile, aside ordering their release, Tinubu also charged the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to ensure the safe return of the minors to their families.
