The Lagos Command of the Nigerian Police on Monday said it was not sure what the main objective of the continued protests against the police is.
The Command, speaking through its spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, said continued protests in Lekki and parts of Lagos Island cannot possibly be over the call for the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, saying since an announcement was made on Sunday dissolving the unit, no protests over the same subject could be justified.
“We don’t know why the protesters are protesting against now,” said Muyiwa Adejobi answering queuing on a TVC Live interview on Monday.
Adejobi said reports of protests have reached the command from places in Lagos saying
“We have a meeting with the CP this morning.
“We have called on the Divisional Police Officer of the area. But all we have heard is just noise.”
He assured that if the protesters are you objective about the protests, the Command would not opposed to it.
He however warned, “If we notice that miscreants want to take advantage, we are going to assess the situation and handle it professionally.”
There is tension in many parts of the country as the protests continue.
