A former Governor of Ogun State, Gbenga Daniel has written to Governor Dapo Abiodun to stop his monthly pension.
The former Governor who is now representing Ogun East senatorial district in the National Assembly said this in his letter dated June 14 a copy of which was seen by the NPO Reports.
Daniel said his conscience would not allow him to be in the senate collecting his salary and still be entitled to a monthly pay from the state.
Daniel said in the letter, a copy of which is in possession of The Glitters Online wrote: “I write for the suspension of my monthly pension/allowance of N676,376, 95k (gross), being paid as a former executive governor of Ogun State.
‘The request is in compliance with my conscience, moral principle and ethical code against double emoluments that a serving senator of the federal republic who hitherto was a former governor of Ogun State, shall not be entitled to the payment of pension and allowance from such state.
‘It is pertinent to also have it on record that since I left office in 2011, I have not benefited from any welfare packages be it medical, furniture, transportation etc.
NPO Reports that a Nigerian advocacy organisation Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has been at the vanguard of the campaign for former Governors who are elected to the National Assembly to stop collecting monthly payments from their states.
