Former Kano State Governor, Kabiru Gaya, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) as he tendered his resignation letter to his ward.
Gaya, in the letter dated 5th of April and addressed to the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman in Gaya Local Government Area of Kano, announced the withdrawal of his membership from the ruling party.
The ex-governor who also represented Kano South Senatorial District in the 9th Senate expressed his gratitude to the APC for the support and opportunity given to him to serve under the flagship of the party.
He however declared that his decision to leave the party followed a wide and careful consultation which was based on the best interest of his constituents as well as his personal conviction.
“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC) effective today 5th April 2026
“It has been an honour to serve under the platform of the party, particularly during my tenure as a Senator (2015-2023): I remain grateful for the support, trust, and opportunities given to me during this period.
“However, after careful reflection and wide consultation, I have come to the considered conclusion that it is in the best interest of my constituents and my personal convictions to step aside from the party at this time.” Gaya wrote.
The former Kano governor expressed his gratitude to the ruling party for giving him their platform.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and comaraderie extended over the years.
“Kindly accept the assurances of my highest and esteem regards.” He added.
While his next party was not stated in the letter, Gaya in his address to newsmen disclosed his planed defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) where he will be joining fellow former Kano governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the 2023 APC Kano Gubernatorial Candidate, Nasiru Gawuna.
