A former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, has regained his freedom four days after he was kidnapped.
Gunmen had on Thursday kidnapped Gye-Wado in Rinza village, Wamba Local Government Area of the state.
The state’s PPRO, Ramhan Nansel confirmed his release to newsmen on Monday.
According to him, Gye-Wado was set free following the search and rescue operation of the police.
“He was released around 9pm yesterday (Sunday), due to sustained pressure from the search and rescue team,” he said
He, however said he is not aware if a ransom was paid before the former deputy governor regained his freedom.
“We don’t support or encourage payment of ransom. So that is totally out of our knowledge. We don’t know anything about that.”
Professor Onje Gye-Wado, who is a former dean of the faculty of law at Nasarawa State University served as Deputy Governor of the state between 1999 and 2003.
