A former Osun State Commissioner for Works, Remi Omowaiye, has said he was, on Monday, attacked by some gunmen who laid ambush for him on his way to Osogbo from Ilesa.
The claims came amidst ongoing clashes and mayhem which started across the state on Monday over the control of the local government areas in the state.
NPO Reported that clash had ensued between supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the Appeal Court ruling which the APC claimed to have reinstated the sacked Local government chairmen and councilors elected in 2022.
With two former APC LG Chairmen reportedly killed, Omowaiye said he escaped death by whiskers after his convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen.
As seen in a video shared on X, one of the vehicles was heavily shot in the attack.
One of the witnesses claimed that the particular vehicle was heavily attacked by the assailants who thought it conveyed the former Commissioner.
Meanwhile, the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, earlier disclosed that five PDP members have been killed in the political violence.
He urged residents and other political members to stay away from the LG Secretariats to prevent further bloodshed.
