Former Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed his grief over the multiple stampedes reported across the country over foods giveaways during the week.
Buhari, in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, also extended his condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the tragic stampedes which claimed many lives in Oyo State, the Federal Capital Territory, and Anambra State.
According to the statement, the former President, also expressed sympathy to Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra and Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT.
He appealed to the leaders to pass on his words of sympathy and support to the families and friends of the victims, and wishes of a speedy recovery to those injured in the stampedes.
Buhari also sympathized with the Catholic community in respect to the FCT stampede incident which occured at Holy Trinity Catholic church, Maitama, Abuja.
Meanwhile , he extended his warm wishes to Nigerians on the occasion of Christmas and called on fellow countrymen to recall the noble teachings of Jesus Christ.
He also extends heartfelt wishes to each and every citizen of our great nation for a Happy New Year, 2025, saying “May this year bring us all immense prosperity, peace, and good health.”
