A former Editor of The PUNCH newspapers, Mr. Dayo Oketola, is set to be named as the spokesman to the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Joash Ojo Amupitan.
NPO Reports gathered that all formalities have been concluded to announce Oketola as the spokesman to the INEC boss.
It was learnt from sources close to the matter that the former Editor is to be named officially any moment from now.
Oketola, who was the Editor of one of the leading newspapers in Nigeria, served in the capacity between March 2022 and June 2024.
The former Editor is expected to bring on board of INEC’s communications desk, more than two decades of experience in reporting and media management. Oketola, who last year presented his book, The Catalyst: Nigerian ICT Evolution Through a Journalist’s Lens’, has won many awards in his career as a journalist.
The book details Nigeria’s journey from an analogue business environment to one led by digital technology through the arrival of the internet.
Winner of many awards, Oketola was the Editor of the Year at the Nigeria Media Merit Awards in December 2023.
Twice Oketola also won the Zimeo Excellence in Media Awards in Johannesburg (2015) and Nairobi (2016).
