A group of military retirees have, on Thursday, stormed the Federal Ministry of Finance headquarters in Abuja over non-payment of entitlements and other emoluments.
The aggrieved retirees, under the aegis of Coalition of Military Pensioners, barricaded the entrance of the ministry, displaying banners and placards to express their agitation.
One of the banners read, “Ministry of Finance please release funds for our overdue & unpaid entitlements”
Another banner highlighted the pensioners’ demands.
Their demands, as contained in the banner, include “payment of palliatives from October 2023 to November 2024, 20%-28% salary increment from January to November 2024, N32,000 added to pension, and payment of the new minimum wage.”
They also demanded for the payment of security debarment allowance (SDA) in bulk and refund of deductions made from the pensions of medically boarded soldiers.
