A two-storey building has collapsed in Lagos after an explosion which was caused by raging fire.
The building, located at number 17 Obalabi Street, Off Governor Road, Ikotun, Lagos was razed down to ashes by explosion.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed this in a statement signed by the Director of the agency, Adeseye Margaret.
According to the statement, the fire which started around 7:20pm on Thursday was very light in the beginning before it graduated to an explosion due to the volatile furniture materials being traded on the ground floor of the two storey-penthouse building.
The statement further stressed that the explosion from the chemical induced materials consequently resulted into the total collapse of the building.
“The incident which was alerted at 18:20 hours, Thursday is being attended by two Fire Crews which on arrival met d Fire well alight before resulting in an explosion due to the volitile furniture materials traded on the ground floor of the two storey-penthouse building,”
“The explosion from d chemical induced materials consequently resulted in d collapse of the building,” the statement read
“Operational Firefighting is wrapping up as damping down progresses with no record of casualty as occupants of d building are safe.

However, an adjoining one storey boys’ quarter building and two vehicles parked within the premises were saved among others.
“Preliminary investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the Fire incident and will be made available to the public in order to forestall such occurrence in future.”
