Thousands of travelers are held down at Ibafo and adjoining areas of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday as a tanker fell blocking the major highway.
NPO Reports correspondent who was caught in the heavy traffic said travelers have spent as long as three hours waiting to navigate their ways out of the logjam.
Desperate to get out of the traffic , many drivers have followed different directions one of which is road inside Magboro to avert the confusion on the main road.
A traveler coming to Lagos from Ibadan said for four hours she has been in the traffic.
The traveler who identified herself as Mrs Agoye, said it was not until after spending up to two hours that she and other passengers realised that it was caused by a fallen tanker.
”It is high time these rickety tankers left the roads. Many of them pass in front of law enforcement officers and they look away. And the result is this kind of tragedy.,” she complained
Another driver, who identified himself as Dr. Lanre Onipe said he ran into the traffic on his way from Ijebu Ode.
”I left Ijebu Ode for a meeting of my alumni association slated for 3pm in Lagos. I thought under one hour and a half, I would be in Ikeja venue of the meeting and return to Ijebu this evening. It’s looking like I have to find a convenient place to make a turn since I have spent more than four hours already here,” he said
Officials of the Ogun state traffic management agency TRACE were seen at the scene of the fallen tanker . They were however unable to do anything as the equipment to remove the fallen tanker was not in sight as at the time of filing this report.
