Nigerian content creator, Tolulope Olayiwola, popularly known as Pastor Remote, was on Tuesday threatened to be unfollowed by his fans over post on the detention of social media influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan.
NPO Reported that the activist was last week arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The anti-graft agency held him in custody without any initial statement confirming his arrest and detention.
This had sparked public outrage and resulted to a two-day protest across the country.
Pastor Remote, in a video shared on X, recounted how he had supported calls for VDM’s release in a post on his social media handle.
This, according to him, had sparked backlash from some of his followers who threatened to unfollow him over the post.
Expressing his disappointment with the fans’ criticism of his post, Remote stated that Nigeria will only get better the day Nigerians understands that one person’s enemy is not another’s enemy.
He slammed the fans for raising unnecessary issues, while defending his call for VeryDarkMan’s release.
“Yesterday, I posted VDM on my story and if you see the way people came for me. If you see the way people take enter like I con dey hear bro I’m so disappointed in you. Bro, I didn’t believe you can do this. I’m unfollowing you right now. Because I posted Free VDM on my story.
“The day Nigeria understands that your enemy is not my enemy, it is that day that this country will be better. Creating uneccessary wahala. If you support Davido, I support Wizkid. Will you because of that unfollow me?
“If you support Kizz Daniel and I support Asake, will you because of that unfollow me? You support Chelsea, I support Arsenal. Because of that you will now unfollow me.
“Which day here na him dem go carry person for bank and was handcuffed. From there they whiksed him. So, make we dey fear now say if anything do our account make we dey fear to go bank.
“When dem carry una now, who will go voice for you?” The skit maker said.
Meanwhile, the EFCC had yesterday opened up on VDM’s detention, claiming that he was arrested and detained over several petitions bordering on financial infractions filed against him.
The anti-agency however disclosed that he has been granted an administrative bail and will be released as soon as he fulfils the bail conditions.
