Heavy presence of armed policemen was observed on Tuesday at the Lagos office of Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) amid fear of planned protest over the detention of human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.
The police officers were seen positioned around Magodo Estate where the Senior Advocate’s office is located.
NPO reported that the Take it Back movement, a human rights and advocacy group, had last week scheduled a nation wide protest set to hold today in demand for the release of Dele Farotimi who was arrested and arraigned by Afe Babalola over alleged defamation of character.
The movement, spearheaded by activist, Omoyele Sowore, had condemned the unjust arrest and arraignment of Farotimi following publication where he openly accused Afe Babalola of being responsible for ills and corruption in Nigeria’s judiciary system.
Farotimi was slated to appear in court today following last week’s arraignment of his case.
Howvever, the court, yesterday, granted him N50 million bail application and adjournment of his case till 29tth January 2024.
Barely hours after the announcing the decision, the Ekiti court insisted on continuation of the trail against the lawyer.
