Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has pledged further demolition of properties illegally built on government lands in Abuja.
Wike stated this at the flag off ceremony for distribution of vehicles to security agencies on Thursday.
Sequel to the Senate’s decision to probe his alleged land grabbing from residents, the Minister held that he is unmoved by what he described as blackmail.
Wike stressed that people take government land without approval while reinstating his commitment to the demolition of properties built on the lands.
“Let me use this opportunity to tell Nigerians to tell Nigerians and residents of Abuja that we are not afraid of blackmail.
“In fact, you cannot be in this kind of position and say you will not be blackmailed. Particularly as regards this Abuja, there are son many land grabbers.
“Some of us have come to put our feet down. Let heaven fall. It is even better that heaven comes down now so that we would not be fasting again to go to heaven.”
“We would stop anybody who thinks they will take government land for whatever reason with formal approval.
“We would not look at your face. If you like be a civil rights activist or a television personality.
“What is wrong is wrong; no amount of blackmail can stop us. People take government property without approval or documentation.”
“I have told people that there is a government yesterday that did not take any step does not mean that another government will come today and will not take step.
“Even if this government does not, tomorrow another government will come that will make a step. That you did something 15 years ago does not mean it is right.” Wike said.
NPO reported that Senate set up a committee to probe the alleged land grabbing by Wike as agitation and outcry intensify over the Minister’s action.
