The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Commissioner, Ajao Adewale, has warned the Command’s personnel against unprofessional practices such as extortion, incivility, and poor dressing.
This was made known in a statement issued on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh.
According to the statement, the Police Commissioner gave the warning during his visit to five Divisional Headquarters in Garki, Apo, Asokoro, Jabi, and Wuse areas of the FCT on Saturday.
Speaking at each divisional headquarters, Ajao also warned the personnel against the improper use of social media, stressing that such behaviors erode public confidence and tarnish the image of the Force.
He harped on the need for professionalism and respect for human rights.
These, according to the Commissioner, are non-negotiable tenets of policing.
He also urged officers to carry out their duties with discipline, fairness, and a firm commitment to the rule of law, noting that public trust is earned through consistent and ethical conduct.
The CP also stated his intention to engage officers on a more personal level, particularly those deployed in field operations who are most assertive in their interactions with members of the public.
He announced plans to conduct one-on-one lectures with field personnel, emphasizing practical guidance and accountability.
In addition, Ajao disclosed that he would be moving around the city frequently to personally supervise officers on duty, ensure compliance with professional standards, and directly observe field operations.
He held that this hands-on approach is aimed at boosting morale, enforcing discipline, and reinforcing public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
Ajao further encouraged officers to deepen their engagement with the communities they serve, as effective policing relies on trust, collaboration, and open communication.
He however called on residents to actively support the Police with credible information and to partner with the command in advancing safety and security across the territory.
The Commissioner of Police reassured residents of the FCT of his unwavering resolve to strengthen Police-community relations and promote proactive, people-centered policing that respects the rights and dignity of all.
