The New Nigeria Peoples Party’s (NNPP) 2023 Presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the Federal Government of distributing federal resources to one direction in Nigeria at the detriment of other parts of the country.
Kwankwaso stated this during his address at the public hearing on constitution review in Kano state on Thursday.
While acknowledging the government’s provision of infrastructure for Nigerians, the former Kano state governor accused the government of exploiting the northern region of its resources to develop other parts of the country.
He recounted his experience travelling through the uncompleted road from Abuja to Kano on Wednesday after his flight was delayed.
“Let me advise the Federal Government on the distribution of federal resources. From the information available to us, it’s like most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country.
“Yesterday, I was to come by air. Unfortunately, my airline decided to shift our takeoff from 3 to 8pm. I had to come by road.
“From Abuja to Kaduna to Kano was a hell, terrible. Very bad road! And this is a road that was started many years ago, right from the beginning of the leadership of the APC.
“Now, we are told that there is a road from the South to the East. We support infrastructure anywhere in this country.
“In fact, I was telling myself that I wish that road was done before 2023 election because I was the only aspirant of candidate who travelled to all nooks and corners of this country. I would have used that road. So, we support roads everywhere and any other thing that is good for the masses.
“But a situation where government is taking our resources and dumping it in one part of the country and other parts of the country are left just like that, I don’t believe that is the right thing to do by the government itself.” Kwankwaso said.
He advised the government to change and convince the people by even distribution of federal resources across the country.
“This is the time for the government to change and convince our people that the government is not just on one side of the country.” the former Kano governor added.
