In a move to address bullying incidents across Nigerian schools, the Federal Government has established a seven-man anti-bullying committee.
The committee, established by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, is saddled with the responsibility of reporting bullying cases and ensuring swift action.
This was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade.
According to the statement, Alausa emphasized urgent need for effective interventions as he cited psychological impact of bullying on students.
The Ministry maintained that committee’s duties will complement the 21-member team working on a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.
While providing hotlines and email address for members of the public to report cases bullying, Alausa reiterated the education ministry’s zero-tolerance to bullying.
The statement read; “The Federal Ministry of Education (FME) has established a 7-member committee to address bullying incidents in all Nigeria schools, reinforcing its commitment to welfare and a safe learning environment.
“Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, emphasized urgent need effective interventions, citing psychological impact of bullying on students.
“The committee will review reported cases and ensure swift action, complementing the 21-member team working on a National Policy on Anti-Bullying.
