The Federal Government has ordered probe into the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) over bribery and corruption allegations.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
As contained in the statement, the Interior Minister called for unconditional and comprehensive Investigation of the NCoS as he condemned the unprofessional conducts traced to the agency.
While harping on the core values of the ministry, Tunji-Ojo vowed to bring perpetrators of the corrupt practices to book.
“The Ministry will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law,” Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo said.
Meanwhile , the Minister set up a special investigative panel headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to probe these allegations and submit a comprehensive report.
Other members of the committee include Dr. IJju Agomuoh of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation And Welfare Action (PRAWA) who will serve as the Secretary;
Mrs Eva Omatese, Director of Legal Ministry of Interior; Mr. Usman Nasiru, Director of Joint Services Ministry of Interior; and Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugo (Consultant lyke) of The Brekete Family Show.
This is coming in the wake of alleged involvement of the NCoS in the bribery saga between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and popular Nigerian crossdresser, Idris Okuneye (Bobrisky).
Bobrisky had in a leaked voice note disclosed how NCoS officials had told him to bring N3 million to be given a VIP space in a correctional centre where he sentenced to over illegal spraying of Naira notes.
