Human rights activist, Isaac Fayose, has shifted blame on the Federal Government as he alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration is responsible for the hike in fuel price and not the ongoing war in Iran.
Fayose’s allegation is coming amid complaints by Nigerians over the price of fuel, especially petrol which currently sells around N1,300 per litre in several fuel stations across the country.
The hike had largely been attributed to the war escalated across the Middle East region by Iran with the closure of the Strait of Hormuz gravely affecting the global oil market.
However, the Iran war, for Fayose, did not suffice as reason for the hike in price of fuel in Nigeria.
Reacting in a video shared on X on Thursday, the brother of former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, heaped the blame on what he labelled bad governance by the APC administration.
Fayose maintained that Nigeria is not meant to be affected by the Iran war considering its status as an oil-producing country.
“Many of you are saying our fuel is going up because of the war in Iran. I think you are missing the point. We are oil-producing state. We have the crude under our feet.
“We are not supposed to be going through what we are going through if we have good government.” He said.
The activist questioned the FG over the non-operation of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company’s (NNPC) refineries despite huge amount of money spent on them.
“You heard with your ear that N210 trillion is missing in NNPC. All the time, we post video of what they’ve spent on our refineries and none of them is working.
“Imagine if our refineries are working, and we are pumping good crude, that means government can afford to pump one million litres every day for our own local consumption through our NNPC.” He said.
While playing an AI-generated video of Singapore’s revolution history, Fayose harped on the need for good leadership and governance in a nation.
He called out the FG over alleged inadequate supply of crude to Dangote Refinery.
“It doesn’t take long to build a nation if you have a good leader.
“Dangote Refinery that supposed to be getting constant crude oil, they are starving them.” He added.
