In preparation for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup set to take place Australia and New Zealand between July 20 and August 20, The Falcons took on New Zealand in an International friendly on Tuesday.
Super Falcons defeated New Zealand in an international friendly match on Tuesday, April 11 at the Mardan Sports Complex 3 – 0.
Falcons’ took the lead through skipper Onome Ebi who scored the first goal for the team in the 34th minute, before Onyinye Echegini doubled the lead in the 49th minute and Desire Oparanozie scored the third goal for the falcons in what was a good match for them in 94th minute.
This is the Falcons’ third win in a row after defeating Costa Rica and Haiti in previous friendly matches.
The Super Falcons will be at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup as they are in Group B alongside Canada, Australia and Republic of Ireland.
The Falcons first match at the World Cup would be against Canada on the 21st of July, the Falcons would be looking to make it past the group stage at this year edition of the showpiece and make it beyond the Quarter Finals for the first time since 1999 which is the best they have gone in at the FIFA World Cup.
