The Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland has on Friday commenced the terrorism trial of self-acclaimed Biafran Prime Minister, Simon Ekpa.
NPO Reported that the Finnish government has in November 2024, arrested Ekpa over alleged terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.
He was accused of causing unrest in the South-east region by inciting violence through social media in agitation for Biafra.
Ekpa had however denied ordering weapons for pro-Biafra groups and other allegations against him during interrogation.
As captured in a video shared on X, Ekpa appeared before the court with a rather sombre look as against his usual fierce stance.
According to reports, prosecutors are demanding a six-year prison sentence for him, stressing that his activities may constitute terrorism under Finnish law.
“We have a great deal of evidence regarding this individual’s online activity and communications,” said state prosecutor Sampsa Hakala.
