At least five people have been confirmed dead in a fatal auto crash in Oyo state.
The accident, involving a commercial Micra car and a truck, reportedly occurred around midnight on Thursday along the Iwo Road Ojoo expressway.
While one person was left injured, 6 others were rescued unhurt.
Confirming the incident in a statement issued don Friday, the Oyo State Command of Road Safety, said the accident occurred as a result of route violation, resulting in devastating consequences for the 12 passengers involved.
The statement added that the injured person had been taken to a nearby hospital by the Police before the arrival of road safety officials.
However, the identity of the fatalities has not been confirmed but the five dead persons have been transferred to the morgue.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Command of Road Safety has reiterated the warning against route violation and excessive speed while driving.
The sector commander, Rosemary Alo noted that ” Motorists are always in a hurry thereby causing avoidable loss of lives.
“In areas where construction works are ongoing, commercial vehicle owners and other road users must adhere strictly to the diversions placed and ply the road with patience no matter the time of the day,” she said.
Meanwhile, the accidented vehicles have been towed to Akobo Police station, to allow free flow of traffic along the general gas axis where the accident happened.
