A resident of Agungi community, Lekki area of Lagos state has raised the alarm as flood ravaged the community following yesterday rainfall.
The resident had in a TikTok video posted under the handle, lushelegance, claimed that the community is drowning.
As captured in the video shared on X on Wednesday, the street was heavily flooded with motorists and pedestrians manoeuvring through the flood.
The video also captured the traditional chief of the community, popularly known as Baale, Chief Tunde Adamo, who watched the flooded street helplessly through his balcony.
However, the resident claimed that the flood was heavier and deeper down the street with no vehicle able to pass through it.
“Agungi Lekki is drowning. This is not a joke talk. Shey you see am? Na person compound be dat too. If you go further, it is very deep that people and vehicles can’t pass. Several cars have broken down inside the water.
“See Baale house. Nobody is taking responsibility. He fit be say dem do give them the money and dem don chop am. Yeye nonsense people.” The angry resident had said
Recall that the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, had last month alerted residents across the state of imminent flash floods and strong wind ahead of the rainy season.
Wahab had at a press briefing warned that the state is anticipated to experience above normal rainfall amounts in the first peak of the rainy season while normal rainfall amounts are expected in the second peak of the 2025 rainy season.
The Commissioner said it is expected that the high amounts of rainfall sometimes would lead to flash flooding events in some parts of the state, adding that strong winds are expected during the onset and end of each rainy season and this may put lives.
