Family of late Islamic singer, Rukayat Gawat, has formally announced her death.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on X by Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State governor on New Media, Jubril Gawat, on Thursday.
According to the statement, the popular singer passed away on Monday after brief illness.
The family disclosed that she was buried at her husband’s hometown, Ijebu-Aiyepe, Ogun state.
However, Fidau prayer will be held for her on the 1st of October 2024.
Meanwhile, the family expressed their grief with the deceased fans while request for privacy over her death.
The statement read in part; “It is with heavy hearts, but in total submission to the Will of Almighty Allah (SWT) that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, wife and mother, Alhaja Rukayat Gawat-Oyefeso, who returned to Allah on Monday, September 23, 2024 after a brief illness.
“She has since been laid to rest in her husband’s hometown, Ijebu-Aiyepe, Ogun State, in line with Islamic rites. Fidau prayer will be held for her on Tuesday, October 1, 2024.
“While we acknowledge that her passing has deeply affected many, especially her teeming fans and the indigent whose lives she touched directly through her philanthropic activities, we kindly ask that the family be allowed to continue directing the final rites.
“We greatly appreciate the overwhelming love and support we have received during these difficult times. However, we request that our privacy be completely respected this time as we grieve and find the needed strength to bring a closure to this irreparable loss.”
