A former Governor of Akwa Ibom Godwin Abbe has died.
Abbe, who was also Governor in Rivers State reportedly died in Abuja today after a protracted battle with an undisclosed illness.
He died on Saturday night in Abuja, less than three weeks before his 75th birthday.
He was a military governor in the two occasions he served as governor.
Abbe was also appointed Minister of Defence and Internal Affairs under the administration of late President Umar Yar’Adua.
Born on 10 January 1949, Abbe served as Military Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 1988 to 1990.
According to reports, Abbe’s tenure was marked by his commitment to governance and development.
His illustrious career in the Nigerian Army saw him earned milestone accomplishments such as his promotion to Second Lieutenant in 1967, Lieutenant in 1969, and appointments as Battalion Commander, Instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, and Staff Officer Grade I.
