The feud between the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Hakeem Owoade and the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi may be deepened again as the son of President Bola Tinubu, Seyi has been named as Okanlomo of Yorubaland, a title already conferred on an Ibadan billionaire businessman, Dotun Sanusi.
Oba Owoade’s conferment of the title on Seyi Tinubu was disclosed in a flier circulating on social media on Wednesday.
As contained in the flier jointly issued by the Oyo monarch and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, the chieftaincy installation is slated to hold on Saturday, December 21, 2025, with members of the public invited to witness the occasion.
Also named in the invitation is Zamfara lawmaker, Sen. Abdul’Aziz Yari, who is to be conferred with the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

Confirming the development, Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, in a telephone conversation said that the installations would proceed as planned.
“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo will install Seyi Tinubu as Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as Obaloyin of Yorubaland. An official press statement will be released shortly,” Durojaiye said.
NPO Reports also reached out the Alaafin spokesperson.
He disclosed that an official statement will be issued soon as regards the development.

“The official release will be out hopefully today by evening or tomorrow morning. We are working on it.” He said.
The development is coming months after the Ooni of Ife conferred the title Okanlomo of Oodua on Ibadan-born billionaire businessman Dotun Sanusi.
The move had sparked a supremacy debate among Yoruba traditional institutions with the Alaafin palace faulting the Ooni over the installation.
The power tussle was however resolved by stakeholders.
The choice of the President’s son Seyi to be installed as the Okanlomo is viewed by many watchers as a way to get back at the Ooni of Ife.
Attempts to speak with the Okanlomo installed by the Ooni, Chief Dotun Sanusi proved abortive at the time of of filing this report.
