The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osun Command, says no fewer than six travellers lost their lives in an accident that occurred on Tuesday morning on Ipetu-Ijesa – Akure Highway.
The FRSC Ipetu-Ijesa Unit Commander, Mr Bamidele Ayanwale, made this known in while addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Osogbo.
Ayanwale said that huge sum of money was recovered from the accident scene.
He said that the accident occured on Iwaraja junction area at about 10.31 a.m on Tuesday leading to death of six people.
The unit commander said that a red Toyota Sienna marked Lagos KTU 896 HX had an head on collision with another vehicle, Opel Safari with number plate GBA 442 XA due to speeding and total disobedience to safety regulations.
“The accidents involves 11 males and three females. Six males lost their lives, while seven others sustained severe injuries and only one person was unhurt.
“We also recover some amount of money from the accident scene, which we have handed over to relatives of the victims,” Ayanwale said.
According to him, the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Wesley Guild, Ilesa, while the injured passengers are also in the same hospital.
The commander advised motorists plying the Ipetu-Ijesa-Akure Highway to always be safety conscious in order to avoid lost of human lives and property.
Ayanwale said that the gridlock within the scene of accident had been cleared for easy vehicular movements.
