For the first time after the political crisis in River state blew up, the governor of the state, Sim Fubara on Thursday met with the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike in PortHarcourt.
The encounter was at the rededication service of the 2023/2024 Legal Year at the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Port Harcourt. Fubara, who was the first to be in the church and had taken his seat, later welcome Wike who came in later.
As he made for his seat near the governor, the duo shook hands briefly while Wike went on to exchange greetings with other dignitaries at the event.
NPO Reports that the state capital came under tension last week after some hoodlums burnt a part of the House of Assembly complex. It was learnt that the hoodlums took the action to frustrate an impeachment plot aimed at getting Fubara out of the way.
The governor, who was on his way to inspect the extent of the damage the following Monday with some of his aides, was shot at while policemen using a water canon had poured water on him.
Pro-Fubara protesters had however taken over the state capital pledging support for him and asking Wike to allow the governor do his job.
It was learnt that the due broke their relationship after an alleged breach of agreements between Wike, who served eight years as the governor of the state and his protege.
Some elders of Rivers state had travelled to Abuja to meet the FCT Minister to resolve the crisis. Wike was later quoted to have said that no one should be allowed to tamper with the political structure he had built in the state.
