Many believe that Wednesday exchange of words between the Speaker and his Deputy flowed from the current impasse over who becomes the successor to Gbajabiamila in the 10th National Assembly.
There was a confrontation at the plenary of the House of Representatives on Wednesday as the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase confronted speaker Femi Gbajabiamila over what he called incessant adjournment of the plenary.
But Gbajabiamila denied this saying he only said the schedule of the House should be arranged in a way that the House would close by 2pm.
Many believe that Wednesday exchange of words between the Speaker and his Deputy flowed from the current impasse over who becomes the successor to Gbajabiamila in the 10th National Assembly.
Wase is a member of the G-7 Group which has drawn the line with the national leadership of the party over its zoning arrangement.
Gbajabiamila had asked the Chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Abubakar Fulata, to prepare a light order paper for Thursday sitting so as to allow members to attend an event at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies.
Wase however considered this inappropriate raising an objection.
He said, “Mr Speaker, I’m getting to see this so funny and we have lost quite a number of periods of time. For the commissioning of projects for God’s sake! Why do we have to shelve a lot of activities that we have just to go and witness the commissioning of a project of NILDS?
Gbajabiamila had said that the commissioning which Wase considered insignificant was important to him and other members of the House.
