The African Actress, Akuapem Poloo who posed nude with son on her Instagram page is likely to be sent to prison.
The Accra Circuit court on Wednesday, convicted her on three charges relating to the publication of obscene material.
According to the prosecution, on 30th June 2020, Poloo celebrated her son’s seventh birthday by taking nude pictures together with her son who was also half-naked.
“I am naked in front of you because this is how naked I was giving birth to you, so in case you find me lying somewhere don’t pass by but see me as your mom who brought you to life,” said Brown in her caption on Instagram.
According to the actress, she posted the photo for her son’s seventh birthday, noting that it was not intended to be offensive.
After she was fired with unpleasant comments, she later took to Instagram in a video, where she sought to explain her actions and asked the public to forgive her, noting that she “ realized that the post was no good” and that she had made a mistake.
Initially, Poloo pleaded not guilty to the charges against her but later changed her plea.
The three charges levelled against her namely: publication of obscene materials, engaging in domestic violence conduct that in any way undermines a person’s privacy and integrity.
And engaging in domestic violence namely conduct that in any way detracts or is likely to detract from another person’s dignity and worth as a human being.
The actress was remanded in custody following her conviction. She is to be transported to hospital to undergo a pregnancy test.
Under Ghanaian law, a woman who has pleaded guilty in court is to undergo a pregnancy test prior to sentencing.
Recall that the Child's Rights International, a child rights organisation, had petitioned the Ghanaian Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to look into the matter.
“As a child rights organisation, we deem this act as a violation of the Welfare Principle of the Children’s Act and abuse of the child’s rights to privacy and dignity. We wish to notify your esteemed office to investigate the taking of the said images and its circulation,” the statement read.
The actress will appear in court on Friday, 16th April with the result of the test for the sentence to be passed.
