The Guiness World Records has on Friday acknowledged the largest pot of jollof cooking feat of Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci.
NPO Reported that Baci had yesterday captured Nigerians attention with another record-breaking feat barely two years after coming to the limelight with her 93 hours 11 minutes cooking marathon challenge.
Having lost the record to Irish chef, Alan Fisher, few months after, Baci announced plan to cook the largest pot of jollof rice.
The giant pot, which was fabricated in Gbagada and weighing around 1,430kg was transported to the Eko Hotel and Suite where the event was held on Friday.
While thousands of youths and scores of celebrities had stormed the venue to witness the feat, Baci’s attempt was however acknowledged by the GWR in a late-night post on its official X handle shortly after the cooking was done.
GWR wished the celebrity chef luck with her attempt which now awaits approval and certification.
“What’s cookin’? Best of luck to @hildabacicooks who’s attempting a new record for the largest serving of Nigerian style jollof rice today” GWR wrote.
Meanwhile, as against her initial plan to cook 250 bags of rice, Baci reduced the quantity to 200 bags.
She made this known while addressing newsmen during the cooking.
Baci cited the capacity of her measuring device as reason behind the reduction.
According to her, the device only weighs 20,000kg.
If you noticed when we started, we weighed the pot. We need to weigh every single thing that goes into the pot when we are done. The initial thought was when I was done making 5,000 kilogrammes, I was hoping to achieve about 17 to18 thousand kilogrammes.
“If I include the weight of the pot, that puts us to about 20,000 kilogrammes.
“The measuring device can only weigh 20,000 kilogrammes.
“It is safer for me to go below 20,000 kilogrammes so that my scale can carry it all at the same time.
“That is why I had to cut down the quantity and I only cut it down by a thousand kilogramme.
“This 4,000 kilogrammes of rice is 200 bags of rice and it will still feed 20,000 people.” She said.
